Why a Room

For years everything I've taught has gone through a screen — courses, books, YouTube. There's a version of teaching that doesn't survive compression: me behind your shoulder while your spatial join fails, fixing it together, and moving on. This is that version. One room, twenty laptops, one day.

What you'll walk out with

The spatial fundamentals, fast: Geopandas, coordinate systems, and spatial joins in the first block — enough to follow everything after it, whether or not you've done GIS before.

A working model: Trained on real open data, running on your own machine — not a notebook you watched someone else run.

A repo you can extend: Everything from the day, structured so you can pick it up on Monday and point it at your own city.

The debugging, done with you: The parts that break — environments, CRS mismatches, joins that silently return nothing — fixed in the room, not in a comment thread.

A day of direct access: Twenty people, one instructor. Ask the specific question about your actual problem.

Who it's for

Working data analysts, data scientists, and GIS professionals who want to ship a GeoAI workflow, not watch one. You need Python — you don't need prior GIS. We spend the first block on spatial data fundamentals so everyone starts from the same place.

You'll get the most out of the day if:

  • You write Python comfortably: functions, pandas, daily-driver level, not "did a tutorial once"

  • You bring your own laptop, with admin rights, and conda or uv installed

  • You'll do ~30 minutes of pre-work the week before (environment setup and data download)

Please self-select honestly. A room split between beginners and practitioners fails for both.

Pricing

€390 per seat + VAT, or €520 + VAT if your company invoices it — you'll get a proper EU VAT invoice from my Hungarian Kft., the version your finance team can expense.

That covers the day, lunch, the dinner, a signed book, the certificate, and everything you take home. The room costs the same whether twelve people or twenty are in it, so this is priced to break even, not to scale.

Who's teaching it

I'm Milan Janosov — network and geospatial data scientist, PhD, based in Budapest.

Three ways I've spent the last decade teaching this material:

In companies - Full-day in-house workshops on network science and data visualisation, delivered to corporate teams in the same hands-on format as this one.

On stage - TEDx and conference keynotes on cities, networks, and what spatial data can actually tell us.

Alongside that: seven online courses, three books, and a research background running through the Barabási Lab and Bell Labs. Over 60,000 people have taken courses and books I've made, with more than 130,000 currently following my work online. This is the first time I'm teaching GeoAI in person.

How this works

My audience is global and this room is not. I'm testing whether a Budapest room exists inside that audience — people already here, or people who'd travel for it. So the form is the vote that counts, not the like button. I'll only book the venue if enough of you confirm at this price. If the signal turns out global but not local, I'll look at an online version instead. The form asks about that too.
